I have been using my dell studio 15 laptop for … well… 5 months now and am quite satisfied with the “performance” of the laptop. Here are the imperfections I found in the dell studio 15 . None of them are grave but they do make a difference in the overall user experience . Hope Dell comes up with the updates in their future products. Dell *has* come up with awesome products and even more applaudable customer support and may shall continue…..
- Vandit Khamker.
THE FLAWS – Part wise :
1.) THE TOUCH MULTIMEDIA BUTTONS :
- The touch-buttons on the top (near the LCD) … They sometimes get stuck ; especially the eject button. You can call the Dell customer care for the problem and they will surely send a replacement .
- They glow ONLY when you touch them and hence they are almost invisible in the dark or even semi-dark environment. That makes their glow useless. If you , the Dell designers are listening …. You need a light intensity sensor somewhere… like the ones that come along with the cell-phones.
- The dell media direct doesn’t work in the intended way if you created a HDD partition yourself . I mean it boots up Vista and then it starts the dell media direct software…. which shouldn’t happen.
2.) THE LCD FLAP :
- The lower part of the flap sometimes intervenes with your legs if you have your laptop in your lap and want to adjust the flap angle. Again … take notes you Dell designers !!
- The Flap doesn't have a lock which would prevent it from shuddering when there are jerks and the laptop flap is closed. ( Like the magnet which comes with Macbooks for this purpose. )
3.) THE TOUCHPAD :
- The touchpad does go haywire sometimes (although rarely).
4.) SLOT LOAD DVD DRIVE :
- Putting in a DVD with scratches will cause the laptop to hang 8/10 times.
- Small sized discs are venom for the slot load. Don't ever put them in.
- The Drive is a bit close to the USB port on the right. A slight adjustment in placements would have been convenient.
5.) SPEAKERS :
- Ok the Creative earphones ( ear-buds ) shipped along with the Dell studio are just splendid but that doesn’t veil the need to provide better speakers on the deck.
Conclusion : The dell studio is a very good pick in terms of performance if your computing needs are a bit of everything – general mobile computing, gaming , photo editing , programming etc . This article just highlights the minor differences that can make it more splendid. WOW !! Now I am shedding that fanboy tag off myself. Totally unbiased here … as promised !!

Drivers... Well you'll have to wait for some time I guess.
Hello vandit,
I have a dell Studio Laptop 1535.
I am in need of Dell Drivers for XP prof OS. Kindly mail me the Drivers on gurudatta_nayak@yahoo.com
I had a issue with Dell Card Reader, Heard Phone Jacks, and Heating issue which is now resolved after replacing my Mother Board & Cooling Unit.
@ gurudatta & everyone.
You guys will have to wait for sometime before I mail you the drivers. (dont have a broadband connection currently in nearby vicinity.) will get to you ASAP.
Here is a link with links to the driver for XP.
http://www.getpcmemory.com/drivers/download-dell-studio-1535-windows-xp-drivers/
Now when you reload XP you will need to install the driver in THIS ORDER What you should do is open device manager and make a listing of the models of all the drivers currently installed as for something like sound,video, network there can be differnt hardware installed in the system.
So armed with a listing of your particular hardware you go to the first link and get the drivers and then install XP and reload the drivers as per my second link.
hello vandit
just purchased a dell studio 14.but it had a persistent problem..when i inserted a dvd in it,after playing for some time,the dvd stopped suddenly, and wouldnt eject.It wouldnt even show the dvd icon in MyComputer.
Then i uninstalled the Dell MediaDirect and since then the problem has not ocurred again
Is it because of MediaDirect or some other problem?
thanks in advance for any help..
@anonymous
Install the media Direct again and see if the problem occurs again.. only way to check that. ;-)
the problem occured again even without re installing MediaDirect. but it got solved when i changed the region in dvd setings. works fine now....:-)
thanks
@Anonymous
Oh ! I forgot that DVDs have regional settings. Dont know how it skipped my mind. Mosey along though !
Cheers !
hi vandit
I bought a bluetooth mouse with the laptop, but it has to be installed every time it is turned off and then turned on again (which i find very irritating). Is there any solution to it?
@anonymous
Well make sure you have paired the mouse with your pc and also enabled the Passkey for the mouse. The passkey is 0000.
I think this should do the trick.
i tried it. it accepted the passkey. but the problem still remains..it has to be re-installed every time the mouse is switched off and then turned on..
@anonymous
I can't probably say more as I don't have a bluetooth mouse and hence not accustomed to its configuration settings.
You can post your query on www.thinkdigit.com/forum
in the hardware troubleshooting section. You will surely get help.
hey buddy ... nice work ...
one more flaw i noticed is that it doesnt have a CAPSLOCK indicator .
@Anonymous(^^)
Caps Lock indicator ?? It is there !! look right besides the Caps lock key (it's on the left side)!
can anyone send me a image file of media direct.. and 1 more doubt..is there any way to install media direct formatting the entire hdd..i meanby juz formatting 40 gb or so which uve kept aside 4 ur os..pls reply frenz..
It has maximum flexibility for installing and viewing LCD displays.
